The Beatles on iTunes: Isn't it a pity?

Isn't it a pity
Now, isn't it a shame

There are many things wrong with the world, but the root of them all is the nature of hypocrisy in the hands of power. George Harrison wrote the song Taxman, yet he still managed to pass with a huge fortune (more than he could giveaway in a lifetime) and living in a castle.

How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain

Pain is a thing that can be felt in a myriad of ways. The song Taxman was about financial pain. The rich songwriters didn’t want to pay taxes. They evidently thought it was best if only the poor pay taxes.

How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore

The funny think about many heroes is not only do they want love, but they want fame and fortune, too.

Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Once you are dead, it is impossible to give back. You can only give while you are alive. But thanks to copyright law, it is still possible for the dead “to take.” It used to be that the dead, by definition, had to “give it away.” Ironically, the same government that takes from people while they are alive, also takes from the living to reward the dead.

Some things take so long
But how do I explain

This Orwellian knot does not describe “them,” it describes “us.” We are the ones who embrace double-think, and then refine it into new elements of absurdity.

When not too many people
Can see we're all the same

Poor George. He went off never quite realizing the power of those words, and the remaining Beatles and their families have fared no better. All those adoring crowds color one’s view of the world. Of what value is it to be honored by fools?

And because of all their tears
Their eyes can't hope to see

Another wonderful line. But it isn’t just sorrow that blinds people, it is also fear, pride and greed. Compassion is not the same as virtue. Every hypocrite has compassion.

The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity

There is beauty that is seen and unseen, and it is not for sale, at any price.

Isn't it a pity
Isn't is a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity

Isn’t it a pity, isn’t it a shame, how we teach children lies, and teach them to obey? They (we) never had a chance, but we can change things before we die, if we dare.

Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity
Forgetting to give back
Now, isn't it a pity

Why isn’t the music of a dead man available for free on iTunes? Did he forget to give back, or was it those who could profit that are to blame? No matter how rich The Beatles have become, they still want more money and more fame. They just can't seem to "give back." The wealthy have a terrible time letting go; no matter how big their hoard, they want it to grow more and more.

The rich are enslaved, yet they think they are free. The poor look up to the rich, and they do not see the rich as they truely are. The poor share the same fears as the rich, and that is why they idolize them. The blind follow the blind.

What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity
What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity
